The History of Love and Friendship in Colombia

The History of Love and Friendship in Colombia The history of the Day of Love and Friendship in Colombia continues to be linked to that of the rest of the world, a priest who during the Roman Empire fought to marry the soldiers. After having united several couples in marriage, the priest Valentine was discovered and beheaded on February 14, 270 for disobeying the emperor's rules. Although Valentine died on February 14, it is said that in Colombia the date was modified by merchants in 1969, who, considering that February is the month of the school season, decided that roses and chocolates were to be sold and give away in September, a month that until now had no celebration, so that the day of Love and Friendship began to celebrate in the ninth month of the year. Legend has it that it all began during the Roman Empire, when Emperor Claudius II forbade soldiers to marry, arguing that when they were in love they did not have the same performance in their war operations.
